People seek Counseling and Psychotherapy for many reasons, from dealing with the challenges of everyday life, to coping with anxiety and depression, to improve relationships with others, to getting through major life challenges, or to simply obtain direction for personal, academic, or professional growth and fulfillment. In short, the benefits of Counseling and Psychotherapy are many, and one of the best investments you will make for yourself, and for those you care about.
*The right match when choosing a Psychologist is important. Therapeutic Approaches
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT is a combination of cognitive therapy and behavior therapy. In cognitive therapy, the focus is on how our thoughts and beliefs influence our moods and behaviors. The goal is to identify and shift negative and unproductive thinking patterns toward more positive and productive thinking. In behavior therapy, the focus is on our actions and behaviors. The goal is to shift from unhealthy and unproductive behavioral patterns toward more productive and healthier patterns of behavior.
Overall, CBT helps us to develop new and more positive ways to think, feel, and act. CBT is also very effective in assisting us to identify current problems, and to learn immediate and productive problem solving strategies.
Through CBT, we can learn to live more productive and fulfilling lives for ourselves, and improve the ways in which we relate to others.
Interpersonal Therapy (IPT)
The focus of IPT is to learn to express our emotions in healthier, more productive, and positive ways. The goal is to identify and shift the negative and non-healthy expression of emotions toward more positive and healthier ways of feeling and expressing ourselves.
IPT is very effective in helping us to identify unhealthy and non-productive emotions in past relationships, how they impact our current relationships. When we are able to improve the ways in which we can regulate our emotions within ourselves, we can then improve our communication patterns with others, and live more productive and fulfilling lives.
Psychodynamic Therapy
Psychodynamic Therapy is focused on obtaining a greater self-awareness and understanding about our thoughts, feelings, and behavior. Psychodynamic Therapy helps us to identify and explore how underlying (non-conscious) emotions and motivations influence our behavior.
Psychodynamic Therapy is particularly effective in helping us to develop and strengthen our personal abilities, increase our self-esteem, to have a better understanding of ourselves, and to improve our relationships with others.
